Welcome to The Battersea Consultancy, a new company I have created to enable me to continue my passion for innovation in professional practice in the social housing sector.
My aim is for the Battersea Consultancy to become a home for technical writers on housing seeking to work collaboratively.
I have more than 40 years’ experience across the sector, including many years of writing, editing and publishing content on housing matters.
My work with Shelter, the Association of District Councils (ADC), the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), as well as housing associations and local authorities, has given me the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the most important aspects of housing in the UK.
In 1999 I founded HouseMark, the cross-sector business intelligence provider owned by the CIH and the National Housing Federation (NHF). As chief executive I guided HouseMark from start-up to its role as a £5 million annual turnover institution with more than 950 council, ALMO and housing association member organisations across the UK.
Since stepping down from my role at HouseMark in 2016, I have been able to focus my energy on:
- acting as co-author and project director of Building Bridges – the most ‘in depth’ analysis of local authority and housing association relationships published to date
- developing new ideas for housing sector action-research – watch this space
- mentoring housing association directors on producing operational and commercial strategies for their boards
- blogging for the Red Brick website https://redbrickblog.wordpress.com/
